Edward Albee and the American Dream-absurdist play, in my view bringing out people's true characteristics, since they are out of their comfort zone. The absurdism allowed for interesting discussions about the plot in our class. First time in a lit class where we talk a lot about sexual references.
DIDLS-Diction, Imagery, Details, Language Syntax, a helpful mnemonic trick to help us with looking at what is important in the piece of literature we were analyzing.
The Death of a Salesman, Arthur Miller, the movie helped a lot with interpreting the play. I really enjoyed both the play and the movie though. It was our first tragedy and we get to analyze what was causing Willie Lohman to break down.
I think The American Dream and Death of a Salesman fit well together here because they are both critiques of the american way. I'm not sure where DIDLS fits in there, but in a way it does because you can use it to analyze both pieces. What you say about the American Dream is funny, it reminds me of the disgust and surprise people had when we talked about it. I don't think it is the most important thing to mention about the play though.
ReplyDeleteBilly, it kind of just seems like you're listing topics in the order we covered them--the ones you remembered off the top of your head, that is. But you haven't put much effort into this. I'd like to see both more depth and more breadth of coverage in this assignment.
