Synthesis of Course Material 4

Hamlet-My first shakespeare tragedy, I really liked this play and enjoyed it. I loved reading it in class as Hamlet. The play was interesting to dissect with the long monologues and remembering to think in context of the times. Like Ophelia really didn't have that much to live for, after Polonius dying and Hamlet rejecting her because she failed major expectations of women at that time.

Hamlet Movie-I kind of liked the hamlets in both film, but I have always disliked the portrayal of Polonius in all the Hamlet series and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. I did think it helped me better visualize the play, helping me understand what the characters were feeling.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead-a great read, I thought the movie was really funny.

Synthesis of Course Material 3

Pride and Prejudice-I didn't really like reading the book, it was kinda boring and confusing. It was a lot like modern day teenage romance novels where the plot isn't that great, but you watch it for the gossip. Not sure what I got out of this book.

Bride and Prejudice-now this was a good movie, I thought it also did a good job of explaining some things I didn't understand in the book. The ending of the movie is a lot nicer with the indian version of Lydia Bennet coming back from home after she ran away.

Making our AP questions- I thought this was a good exercise because we were understanding how the questions were made. It is a bit unorthodox compared to other exercises we have done in AP class, but it really helped me understand the structure of the multiple choice section.

Ceremony-an important novel about Native American culture. Different because we talked about the culture as oppose to the others we talked more about plot development. Also referenced Foster(our summer homework assignment) a lot. Things like direction of wind were significant.

Open Prompt-we worked on some in class, I thought it was helpful where we talked more about the hidden why/what if question. That Eros poem was hard to analyze though.

Multiple Choice-Talked about the purpose of a distractor.

Edward Albee and the American Dream-absurdist play, in my view bringing out people's true characteristics, since they are out of their comfort zone. The absurdism allowed for interesting discussions about the plot in our class. First time in a lit class where we talk a lot about sexual references.

DIDLS-Diction, Imagery, Details, Language Syntax, a helpful mnemonic trick to help us with looking at what is important in the piece of literature we were analyzing.

The Death of a Salesman, Arthur Miller, the movie helped a lot with interpreting the play. I really enjoyed both the play and the movie though. It was our first tragedy and we get to analyze what was causing Willie Lohman to break down.
